George Welch

First Aired : 19/02/2007

George Welch was born in Byker, Newcastle upon Tyne, and spent much of his youth playing in bands - first as a drummer in The Mercenaries, later playing guitar, cittern and vocals in Heritage and Crooked Oak. He was later in duos with Paul Dickman, harpist Tristram Robson and for many good years as The Cheap Sunglasses Serenaders with Phil Ranson. He went on to add ukulele to his list of talents and make the instrument so popular in the North East.

If you enjoy the recordings below you may want to see George play around the North East of England. Check his website for upcoming dates.
